"At this time, Maryland NRCS develops approximately 50 to 75 Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP) per year. Recently the Maryland Department of the Environment passed regulations that require many of our producers to have a CNMP developed for their operation. Currently this is in excess of over 500 plans. A portion of these CNMPs will be developed by a Technical Service Providers that will be developing Conservation Plans for these operations. In order to efficiently utilize the TSP services it is very important that we have a system to import or develop the plans into the NRCS system. For CNMPs developed in the past, Maryland receives only a paper copy of the plan or in digital format that we cannot import into our system. It is critical for us to have a tool that allows TSPs to access our system so that duplicate efforts will be avoided in the planning process. Also, Maryland plans to participate with providing assistance for development of Conservation Activity Plans. With this new planning effort, it is even more critical that we have this tool for our TSPs."
