GeoAgro presents Soil Data Collector,a ground-breaking tool for soil scientists

GeoAgro is pleased to announce the launch of GeoAgro Soil Data Collector; a mobile GIS based solution for gathering geo-referenced soil profile description data in the field.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of soil scientists, this innovative tool will facilitate field investigations by providing real-time location of sampling points on a background of air photos, topographic maps and AutoCAD drawing files. It will offer detailed soil profile description entry on a tablet PC using standard or customized forms, serving as a digital palette to draw soil mapping lines and other landscape features during fieldwork. Furthermore, data and drawings can be promptly made ready to print for reports or for sharing them via the internet.

GeoAgro Soil Data Collector integrates a number of advanced technologies in a single and user friendly device, including a GIS based interface, integrated GPS collection, customizable data entry forms, georeferenced pictures, customized map production and reporting, and the use of centralized databases for sharing information over the internet, enabling soil scientists to streamline the soil data collection, integration and analysis workflow.

The concept for this innovation originated in July 2006 at the World Congress of Soil Science in Philadelphia, PA when Laurel F. Mueller, consulting soil scientist and president of Soil Services Company, Inc. in Pennsylvania met the software designers of GeoAgro while representing the National Society of Consulting Soil Scientists (NSCSS) at an exhibit booth.  She expressed her desire for software to meet many needs in her soil science business.  "I want to remove huge delays between field data collection and finalization of client reports and agency submissions.  For all consulting soil scientists, the learning curve to get acquainted with GPS and GIS keeps many business owners from incorporating this amazing technology into their operations.  I dream of eliminating my muddy, crumpled soil description notes and wind-torn maps and plans from the process of turning field work into finished reports.  This would save me months of backlog, add to the precision of my field work, and yield huge profits."

GeoAgro took the idea for this comprehensive tool to other soil scientists, and found that it could meet similar needs of many members of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) and the NSCSS. The leadership of these two organizations has pledged to provide feedback for furthering the development of this software to support their activities.  GeoAgro's unique expertise in advanced geospatial technologies has already been demonstrated by providing conservation planning software to meet the needs of the USDA NRCS.

The tool is scheduled for launch through a beta testing program by the end of the 1st Quarter of 2007, and will be demonstrated at the upcoming, NSCSS Annual Meeting in San Antonio TX, from March 1st through March 3rd, 2007. Further details of GeoAgro Soil Data Collector are available at
